Last Meeting 21 April
It was a well attended meeting when President Ruth welcomed members and visitors. The pleasant spring evening could not of been more appropriate as Kay Lunn of Deacon’s florist, Chepstow bought such a colourful array of flowers and foliage.
Kay told of her business which has been in the family for over forty years. She has studied floristry and at one time was the Interflora Training Officer for Wales. As well as the general florist work of bouquets, wedding flowers and funeral requirements Kay provides arrangements for other venues including hotels. She went on to say that not only commercially grown flowers can be used but if one looks around their garden many everyday common and popular species can be utilised including forget-me-nots and herbs, though this would depend on what the arrangement was intended for. Kay began her demonstration with a country basket followed by a hand held posie, a decoration in a gift bag and many more but the ultimate was her final offering of a formal arrangement in white which was stunning and one which any bride would be delighted for it to adorn her wedding venue. Many lucky ladies went home with Kay’s presentations which were the raffle prizes. The evening concluded with tea and cakes.
