Donations – raffle prizes, books, kids clothing, scarves, bags, jewellery, DVDs and bottles of anything – can be taken to the hall (any time it is open) or contact Jane (860422) to arrange delivery. The Hall will be open specifically for collections on Saturday 22nd and Saturday 29th August from 11am to 12 noon. Goods can also be received by stall-holders direct on the day before noon.

This year’s fete will take place as usual on August Bank Holiday Monday, and we’re holding a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in the Hall with activities and events in The Glade. Wear an appropriate hat to join in the fun, and if you’re feeling creative, or just have some good home grown vegetables, enter the Competitions.
We are encouraging residents of the village to display white rabbits, or rabbit ears, in hedges or gardens, and to put up bunting and colours to build a great atmosphere for Fete Day.
The evening before the fete there will be Songs of Praise in the The Glade at 6 pm with refreshments beforehand in the hall from 5 pm.
The day starts with the Companion Dog Show at 12.30pm (registrations at 12 noon) – full details about the show here. It’s open to everyone on the day. Continue reading
Our most successful run yet with 88 runners on the day, and a flurry of media attention. We didn’t expect to have TV camera crews covering out little event, but then The Narth is a great little place, whatever we’re allowed to call our run! If you haven’t seen the news coverage there are clips on both ITV news and BBC News news sites. (These links will disappear eventually.) Continue reading
Entries for The Narth Run on Sunday are now coming in fast. We have a capacity on the day of 120 runners so although there will be places for people registering on the day, we cannot guarantee everyone will be able to run if too many people leave it to the last minute. We advise you to book in advance to ensure you have a place. To encourage this we have extended the bookings deadline to Friday 19 June at 5pm.

Information about The Narth Run
At the opening of our new playground on Tuesday 16th June, residents of The Narth and District said a big Thank You to Natural Resources Wales for providing this fantastic new resource for the children of the area. The Village Hall had no money to replace the old equipment after it became unsafe, and for a while it looked as though The Narth was to lose its much-loved children’s playground. NRW stepped in to save the day, and has provided a complete set of swings and climbing frames which they will maintain for the next five years.

The final version of the Community Led Plan has just been published, and each household in The Narth, Maryland and Pen y Fan will be getting a copy delivered to the door in the next few weeks. You can download the plan here:

Registration: Pre-Booked – registration arrangements for those entering in advance
Last year we received some really useful feedback on how to improve the experience for those runners who entered in advance and just needed to sign in on the day and collect their running numbers. This year there will be a separate desk for you, and hopefully that will make things easier. But do please still allow plenty of time to park, get to the Village Hall to collect your numbers, and then make your way to the start. It’s probably best to allow 20 minutes from the Village hall to the start.
Registration Not Pre-booked – information for those planning to enter on the day
Registration opens at 0900. For the Fun Run (which starts at 1015) registration closes at 0955. For the 5K and 10k, both of which start together at 1100, registration closes at 1040. Please allow plenty of time to park, register, and then make your way to the start. Please note that we have only limited toilet and changing facilities available, and also that it’s probably best to allow 20 minutes from the Village hall to the start.
Car Parking Arrangements
Runners driving into The Narth from Trellech should follow the road into the village, where you will be directed into The Glade car park. opposite the Village Hall, When that car park is full you’ll be directed instead to one of two car parks on Greenway Lane, before you get into the village itself. These car parks are a five minute walk from the Village Hall, so there are real advantages in arriving early. Runners coming from Monmouth should follow the road into the village, where they will be directed into a car park just past the phone box.
We are holding a celebration and a thank you event in The Glade at 4.30pm on Tuesday 16th June to thank Natural Resources Wales for providing the new play equipment, and for offering to maintain it for 5 years. Our County Councillor Debby Blakebrough will be representing the council and we’d like to invite all residents of The Narth and District to join us, especially if you have children who will benefit from our lovely new playground.
After the short ceremony there will be tea and cakes in the Hall.
