Six Footpath Project volunteers worked with the Monmouthshire CC Public Rights of Way Team on our third working group day of the year to build and install a boardwalk on the “Stepping Stones” public footpath which crosses the Manor Brook in Manor Wood.
This route had been blocked by fallen trees for many years until cleared by the Footpath Group last year. Since it was re-opened, it has proved to be a popular and attractive route, but the boggy sections have made it very difficult to use. The work carried out to improve the drainage and to construct the boardwalk should make a real difference and we hope that more people will now be able to use and enjoy it.
Our thanks to the volunteers and to Monmouthshire CC for working with us and for providing all of the materials required.
We have also had an update from Natural Resources Wales. In addition to completing the new access to The Glade opposite the Village Hall, they tell us that they have also cleared all of the fallen trees that we reported as blocking public rights of way.
If anyone spots more fallen or dangerous trees on footpaths or bridleways, then please let Brian Mahony know (01600 860199) and he will pass the details on to the NRW team.
