Those who have participated in previous years will have noticed that this year we’ve dropped a certain five letter word beginning with the letter “G” from the name of our run. This is because of a letter we received from Solicitors acting for the Nova Group – they organise the Great North Run and a number of other events featuring the “G” word. We now know that we have in the past been inadvertently infringing their trademark, and we’ve had to provide a written undertaking not to use the offending word ever again.
The two previous races have both received good (another “g” word, but we think we’re OK) reviews – “very well organised and a (“g”-word deleted) day out”, “a good course and well marshalled” – and the aim this year is again to provide a series of races that will appeal to runners of different ages and abilities, and provide a safe and enjoyable day out for participants and spectators alike.
All proceeds will go The Narth Village Hall to support village events.
Three races through Maryland Woods/Trellech Common will take place. An approximately 2.5K fun run open to all runners aged 9 and over; a 2-lap 5K race open to all runners aged 11 and above; and a 4-lap 10K race open to all runners aged 15 and over. The 5K race and 10K races will start together. The 10K will include men’s and women’s team races sponsored by Watson Fuels. This year Chepstow Harriers are including our run in their 2015 championship.
Prizes and commemorative shields for all race winners. Medals to all those finishing the fun run. A minimum of £50 and a commemorative shield to the winning teams in the 10K race. And a runners raffle (drawn after the race – you have to be there to collect your prize) with your race number as your entry ticket.
All the races are off road on a mixture of forest roads and sometimes narrow paths, and involve uneven ground and some challenging hills.
To keep you fed and watered before, during and after the races – tea, coffee and cake (courtesy of the WI) – with a free cup of tea and piece of cake for all runners.

This year the 10K will include men’s and women’s team races (a minimum of four runners per team, the best three finishers from each team to count), and will also feature in the Chepstow Harriers 2015 championship.

A risk assessment (pdf download) has been carried out and includes details of first aid provision (by the Severn Area Rescue Association), together with details of the arrangements for marshalling the event, both on the course, and on the country lanes providing access to the course. The risk assessment also includes details of the other measures that will be in place to minimise the risks to both participants and spectators.
